George Watkins

I am a sculptural wood turner living in the heart of the National Forest. I have been wood turning for over thirteen years and am completely self-taught. I have learnt from books, videos, practical application and mistakes. It concerns me to think that really nice quality timber is merely burnt as firewood so I rescue wood from local tree surgeons who fell storm damaged trees and thin trees out as part of their woodland management work.

I specialise in turning organic hollow forms, classic shaped vases and vessels using mainly wet wood (otherwise known as green wood).
